Bayern Munich keen on extending contract of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting amidst Manchester United interest

Hasan Salihamidzic, director of Bayern Munich, has revealed that the Bavarians are keen on extending the contract of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Bundesliga giants signed the Cameroon international in the summer of 2020 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. However, the 33-year-old has mostly been a bit-part player for the German outfit.

But Choupo-Moting has found form in recent weeks. And speaking to Sky (h/t Express), Salihamidzic declared Bayern’s intentions to keep the 33-year-old beyond the current campaign.

“We’d love to keep him. I’ve a good relationship with his agent.

“We’ll meet and see if we can satisfy him. He’s a big asset for us. We are in contact and Choupo feels comfortable in Munich.”

The Cameroon international has scored 10 goals in 15 appearances for the Bundesliga giants in all competitions this season. He has been an inspiration as the German outfits number nine, who lost their talisman Robert Lewandowski in the recent transfer window.

After a poor start to the campaign, the Bavarians have gotten back to their best. Choupo-Moting’s arrival has seemingly turned the tide for the Allianz Arena side. And now, the German outfit and the forward are set to intensify contacts on a new offer.

United are now eyeing the 33-year-old in order to add experience to the forward line and replace Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portugal international is out of contract in the summer of 2022.

The 37-year-old has not had the best of seasons for the Red Devils under Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager has preferred other options ahead of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the starting lineup.

Ronaldo has been given a bigger role in the team in recent weeks. But unfortunately, the Portuguese icon has struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

Choupo-Moting is a name that does not excite most of the fanbase. United evidently need to bolster the forward line with more quality in the coming transfer windows and not settle for another stop-gap, short-term solution.
