Manchester United will “continue to monitor” FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. The Portugal international recently signed a new long-term contract with the Dragoes. The new deal has a release clause in it.

The 23-year-old had a breakout season last term with the Primeira Liga outfit and has continued his fine form in the current campaign. And the Red Devils are interested in the shot-stopper’s signature.

Speaking to CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News), transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed United have not made a decision yet on their current goalkeepers. And the club are keeping an eye on Costa.

“There’s been more speculation about the goalkeeping situation at Old Trafford due to recent interest in Diogo Costa, who has just signed a new contract at Porto.

“There is no decision yet on David de Gea, still the same situation – we’ll see when Man United and Erik ten Hag will decide. I think Dean Henderson will look for different options after going out on loan to Nottingham Forest this season.

“With Costa, Man Utd are going to continue to monitor him as he’s a top talent and has a release clause in his new deal with Porto.”

David de Gea is the current number one in between the sticks for the Old Trafford side. The Spaniard has been one of our best players since last season. He did have a shaky start under Erik ten Hag. Fortunately, the 32-year-old has come in clutch.

Initially, fans questioned whether De Gea was the right choice to be our shot-stopper under Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager prefers to play the ball out from the back. And the Spaniard is not the best with his feet.

However, since the 4-0 loss to Brentford, Ten Hag has evidently changed his style a bit. And the 32-year-old has looked a bit more comfortable.

Other options at the Dutch manager’s disposal are Martin Dubravka and Tom Heaton. However, neither of them has seen any game time in the 2022/23 season.

Dean Henderson is also still on United’s books. The England international is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest after not being given many opportunities in the last term.
