Eric Choupo-Moting emerges as ‘shock target’ to replace Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United
Bayern Munich centre-forward Eric Choupo-Moting has emerged as a ‘shock target’ for Manchester United to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Media Foot (h/t The Sun).
The 33-year-old is in the final year of his current contract with the Bundesliga giants. However, they are keen to tie the Cameroon international down to a new deal and extend his stay, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t The Sun).
Erik ten Hag is an admirer of the striker. The Dutch manager likes his versatility and experience. And the Red Devils could pounce on the former Paris-Saint Germain star if he were to leave the German outfit next year.
Before Choupo-Moting’s stint in Paris, he plied his trade in the Premier League with Stoke City for a season. Unfortunately, it was not the best of campaigns for the forward as the Potters were relegated.
The Cameroon international had managed to score five goals and provide five assists in 30 appearances for Stoke in the 2017/18 season. And after two years with PSG, he got a move to Bayern in the summer of 2020.
While the 33-year-old has played a bit-part role at the Allianz Arena, he has been in form this term. The striker has found the back of the net in the last six fixtures for the Bundesliga giants in all competitions, including scoring against Barcelona and Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Choupo-Moting also picked up the man of the match award in the German outfit’s last game against the Nerazzurri in the UCL. Overall this season, the forward has eight goals and three assists in 13 appearances in all competitions.
