Bayern Munich director plays down links to Cristiano Ronaldo

Speaking to SkyDe via @Plettigoal as quoted by popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich director Hasan Salihamidzic has played down rumours linking Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo with a move to the Bundesliga giants.

The Portuguese superstar joined the Red Devils from Juventus last summer returning to Old Trafford after leaving them in 2009. Whilst his return to the Manchester club has gone according to plan on a personal note, he has not been able to inspire Man United as a team.

The Red Devils finished at a dismal sixth in the Premier League table this season and lost out on a Champions League spot in the process. Whilst United were expected to progress with the signing of Ronaldo, it is safe to say that they have taken a couple of steps back.

The 37-year-old striker played 39 times for the Red Devils this season scoring 24 goals and providing three assists across all competitions. Whilst his numbers are decent, there is a feeling that Ronaldo can be a little selfish at times.

Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for the Portuguese superstar as a replacement for Lewandowski if the Polish striker leaves the club but Salihamidzic has played down all such rumours regarding Ronaldo.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player with an outstanding career. However, stories on potential deal with Bayern are NOT true. These rumours have no truth”

Mr Champions League?

For a player who has been nicknamed Mr Champions League for his exploits in the coveted competition, it remains to be seen if Ronaldo would want to stay at a club to play in the Europa League for one full season.

Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, is yet to manage Ronaldo in his career. Anyone who has seen Ronaldo play knows that the Portuguese striker isn’t the most intense presser up front.

At his age, there is only so much that he can do. Whilst the former Real Madrid man has not yet given any intentions as to whether he wants to leave the club, it’s time for Manchester United to compare the pros and cons and make a decision on whether or not to keep Ronaldo.

Erik ten Hag has a huge decision to make this summer and a lot of United’s season can depend on which way he decides to go in this Ronaldo saga, because if the former Real Madrid stays at Old Trafford, his status and reputation would demand him to see as much playing time as he can get.
