Manchester United skipper, Bruno Fernandes was desperate to assist a youngster against Sheffield United
Manchester United skipper, Bruno Fernandes was the star of the show against Sheffield United. A loss would’ve been devastating for the Red Devils and especially for Erik ten Hag. However, the Portuguese skipper led from the front and helped his team seal the win.
Bruno scored two goals and assisted one for Rasmus Hojlund as he led Manchester United to a 4-2 win. However, three-goal contributions weren’t enough for the skipper as he was desperately trying to assist, Ethan Wheatley during the closing minutes of the game.
The academy prospect finally got to make his debut for the club and the Portuguese skipper was desperate to make his night special. Let’s have a look at what Wheatley had to say about the situation. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“He pulled me to the side and said ‘I’ve got nine minutes to try to get you a goal.”
“So I was just trying to get into positions for him and obviously it didn’t come, but hopefully soon.”
Wheatley was desperate to get on the score sheet during his debut, unfortunately, his night ended with him just running around trying to score in garbage time. But, he has finally cracked the first team.
The 18-year-old striker will be getting more chances towards the end of the season and he needs to make the most of it. Scoring a goal during his first few appearances will provide a huge mental boost for Wheatley.
A goal will help him get rid of the nerves and Wheatley may even become the next academy player to solidify a spot for himself in the first team.
