Erik ten Hag says Manchester United could be without two star attackers vs Aston Villa

Erik ten Hag unsure whether Jadon Sancho and Antony will feature for Manchester United vs Aston Villa

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is unsure whether Jadon Sancho and Antony will feature for the Red Devils against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup third round.

The English winger has missed the last three fixtures for us due to illness. On the other hand, Antony has been sidelined with a muscular injury.

The Lions visit Old Trafford on Thursday (10 November) to scupper United’s hopes of getting their hands on silverware this season. We will face Unai Emery’s team for the second consecutive match after losing 3-1 at Villa Park in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of the fixture via Manchester Evening News, the Dutch manager revealed Sancho and Antony could once again miss the tie against Villa. However, the gaffer is optimistic about Anthony Martial.

“There are players coming back but a question mark. As you have seen, Anthony Martial was back for the last 20 minutes at Villa, so we are happy with that.

“And the rest, Jadon Sancho: we have to wait, Antony: we have to wait today, final training.”

The former Borussia Dortmund star has a promising start to the 2022/23 campaign. However, in his recent appearances, the 22-year-old has been a bit underwhelming.

Sancho has not hit the heights most fans had expected when he signed for the club last year. The England international appears to have struggled to adapt to the team.

The former Ajax winger though has made a difference on the right-hand side of United’s attack. He scored in his first three English top-flight fixtures for the Red Devils.

Antony has been an ever-present in the starting lineup since his arrival. Ten Hag has put faith in him and given the forward plenty of opportunities. And his absence has evidently affected the Old Trafford side going forward in the last few fixtures.

Martial’s arrival should be a boost for the Dutch manager. The France international has not been able to feature much this season. But when the centre-forward has played, he has impressed.
