John Barnes backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to bring glory to Manchester United
According to Premier League Productions (h/t The Express), Liverpool legend John Barnes has urged Manchester United to keep faith in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian has a divided fanbase who debate if he is the right man to take us back to the top. Barnes believes that is now time to put that thought behind and back him to succeed.
The Merseyside legend compared Solskjaer’s mixed start to life at United to that of Sir Alex Ferguson. The legendary Scot too did not see the fruits of his labour until the fourth year of his stint at United.
‘As I said you look at experience, Sir Alex Ferguson’s first four or five years at Man United.”
United however persisted with Ferguson who is now among the greatest managers in European football history.
Barnes believes Ed Woodward must show similar patience with Solskjaer. The Norwegian is growing into his role at the club and will in time be a commanding figure with authority over the squad.
“If you know you have the right man and believe he is the right man, stick with him.”
Constantly questioning the manager can have an adverse effect on the players’ performances as well. We cannot afford to be divided if we are serious about challenging for the top.
One result should not dictate a manager’s fate and Barnes has warned against making reactionary decisions. While the 6-1 loss to Spurs may have seen the wheels come off, Solskjaer has thrived off the negative press and has masterminded a turnaround.
“You have to decide ‘we’re going to stick with him’ and once that happens, everything settles down.”

Solskjaer, to his credit, steadied a floundeing ship after he replaced Jose Mourinho in 2018. He has had his up and downs and has often come out fighting.
Whether he is the right man remains to be seen. However, as long as he is at the helm, he must be backed.
