England boss Gareth Southgate set to recall Manchester United star Luke Shaw

According to The Daily Star, Manchester United star Luke Shaw is set to be recalled to the England squad by Gareth Southgate.

The 25-year-old has not been a part of the national team setup since March 2019. Unfortunately, Shaw had to withdraw from the camp then, owing to injury.

In fact, one will need to go back even further to examine his last cap for the national team. Shaw’s most recent appearance for England came in our 2-1 loss to Spain at Wembley in September 2018.

Southgate has preferred to use the likes of Ben Chilwell and Danny Rose instead of Shaw. Even Kieran Tripper has been used there out of position instead of the United star.

The England boss has been left impressed by Shaw’s performances for United this season. He has been backed to include the 25-year-old in his latest squad that will be announced on Thursday.

The Three Lions next face Republic of Ireland in a friendly. The focus then shifts to the Nations League clashes with Belgium and Iceland.

Shaw has been impressive this season

Shaw made his debut for England in 2014. Since then, he has won just eight caps. Injuries have massively disrupted what could have been a promising international career.

At 25, he still has time on his side and can stake a claim on his comeback. With three assists in eight appearances for England, his record is pretty impressive for a left-back.

With the Euros set to be held next summer, a return to the England fold could not have come at a better time. It remains to be seen if Shaw will make use of the opportunity.
