Manchester United linked with Ajax Amsterdam starlet Ryan Gravenberch
According to MEN, Manchester United fans are convinced that former player Edwin van der Sar could be on the verge of helping them land Ryan Gravenberch.
The 18-year-old is the latest talent to emerge from the Dutch giants’ famed youth system. United have already raided them earlier this summer for Donny van de Beek.
Competition for the player will however be tough. According to The Mirror, the likes of Juventus and Barcelona are also keen on securing Gravenberch’s signature.
The youngster has already made six appearances for Ajax this season while making two assists. This includes two appearances in the Champions League including the home tie against Premier League champions Liverpool.
Likened to United superstar Paul Pogba, Gravenberch has so far scored an impressive four goals and three assists in just 19 first-team appearances for the Eredivisie giants.
Gravenberch signed a three-year deal at Ajax earlier this June. Although they are not keen on selling him, the impact of the coronavirus may yet force their hand.
Ironically, Gravenberch is also represented by Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola. It is fair to say that United and he have not been the best of friends over the last year.
While we may like to think that Ajax CEO Van der Sar could secretly be working it out for us, it would be idealistic at best. A thorough professional, he is just doing his job.
As someone who has represented us with dignity, the routes of communication between us and him may be easier. But we find it hard to believe he would favour us over his current employers Ajax.
