Fulham aim to replace Bayern-bound João Palhinha with Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay in January.

Sky Sports has reported that Fulham have actively expressed interest in acquiring Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. The London club are seeking to replace João Palhinha, with the possibility of Bundesliga club Bayern Munich signing the Portuguese.

During the summer transfer window, McTominay attracted links from West Ham and Fulham but ultimately opted to remain at United.

Mirror reported that the Red Devils put a minimum of £40m price tag on the Scottish international. It remains uncertain if the player will carry the same valuation in January.

The 26-year-old has struggled with performance this season for the Red Devils and faced a lot of criticism. McTominay aspires to attain regular playing time, but his current opportunities are not very promising.

McTominay has appeared in five games for the Red Devils so far this season while playing merely 203 minutes. That is very disappointing from his perspective.

The Scottish midfielder will face further playing time restrain with Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat returning from their respective injuries. Additionally, United youngster Hannibal Mejbri has performed well to merit more playing time than his Scottish teammate.

The Red Devils were not under pressure to sell the Scottish midfielder during the summer but the situation may change.

Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules have limited United’s spending, and they are now making efforts to raise funds. The Manchester club resorted to signing players like Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilón on loan to strengthen the squad.

We think that United will be willing to negotiate a reasonable price for players that are surplus to requirement.

McTominay has reached the stage of his career where he needs to play regular football to leave his mark. The 26-year-old is currently in the peak stage of his career, and consistent game time has the potential to reverse his dip in performance.

If Fulham sell Palhinha, they will recoup a big transfer fee from the deal with the German giant. McTominay is a perfect replacement for their Portuguese defensive midfielder, and for half the price they’ll get from Bayern. United will also benefit from raising funds to strengthen the vulnerable areas within their squad.
