Manchester United will hope to trump Arsenal to the signing of Santiago Gimenez

Arsenal are interested in Santiago Gimenez but Manchester United are also in the fray for the Mexican star. Eredivisie side Feyenoord wanted £43.5 million for Gimenez in the summer and another strong season will only see that price rise.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is ready to bring in a new striker in the 2024 January transfer window to help his team’s quest for the Premier League title. Arsenal haven’t lost a game this season and are in scorching form once more.

According to The Times (h/t Metro), Gimenez is garnering eyeballs in north London and Arsenal’s scouting staff is keeping track of his development at Feyenoord.

It also states that if the Gunners want to sign either Ivan Toney or Gimenez in January, they must sell players in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

Despite only receiving a regular starting position in the Feyenoord squad after the 2022 World Cup, Gimenez, a 21-year-old Mexican international born in Argentina, scored 28 goals in all competitions last season along with three assists.

He has gotten off to a flyer this season and has already scored nine goals and made two assists in just seven appearances. Having helped Feyenoord to the championship last season, expectations will be high this time around.

Moving to the Premier League is no easy task and Gimenez will need to get used to the physically demanding style as soon as possible. Manchester United signed Rasmus Hojlund in the summer but can do with an upgrade on Anthony Martial.

Arsenal, meanwhile, do need a prolific goalscorer who is an improvement on Gabriel Jesus. It remains to be seen if Manchester United will make a move should the Gunners make an approach for Gimenez.

More Manchester United News-

While Hojlund is expected to be our first choice number nine, the club should strive to bring in reliable backups in order to let us rotate the playing squad across multiple fronts. Will Gimenez be that man? Time will tell.
