Brighton & Hove Albion ‘hopeful’ of new Evan Ferguson contract amidst Manchester United links
Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion ‘hopeful’ tying Evan Ferguson down to a new contract amidst links to Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Seagulls are preparing fresh terms to secure the Ireland international’s future at the East Sussex-based club. For now, the Amex Stadium side are eager to carry on the 18-year-old’s development.
At the moment, Brighton are flying high, with Ferguson breaking onto the scene this season. As a result, apart from the Red Devils, the youngster has also landed on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.
The Irish national signed for the Seagulls from Bohemians in the winter window of 2021. Subsequently, the forward has mostly plied his trade at the East Sussex side’s youth teams.
However, in the current campaign, the 18-year-old has been given regular first-team opportunities, which he has taken with both hands. The striker also shone for his national side during the recent international break.
Roberto De Zerbi has turned Brighton into contenders for a top-four spot in the PL. Ferguson has made 18 appearances in all competitions for the Amex Stadium side this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
United’s forward line does not have a lot of options for the number nine position. Anthony Martial has been on the sidelines for most of the campaign.
As a result, the Red Devils acquired the services of Wout Weghorst in January. However, the Burnley loanee has left a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Therefore, we could evidently do with multiple additions in the striking department. While Ferguson is still raw and lacks a lot of experience, the 18-year-old has the talent to be a backup at the Old Trafford side. However, one could not blame the Irishman if he opted to stay at Brighton for more game time.
