Manchester United hold ‘positive’ initial talks with AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi
Manchester United have held ‘positive’ initial talks with AS Monaco star Axel Disasi regarding a move next summer, according to Give Me Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have been interested in the defender for some time now. However, the Old Trafford side are set to take their first steps to acquire the France international’s services after holding tentative discussions.
At the moment, the 25-year-old’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2025. The Ligue 1 outfit will look to get around £44 million for the centre-back.
In the upcoming transfer window, United will look to add a striker and a central midfielder to the team. However, further additions have not been ruled, depending on who leaves the club.
The Red Devils are open to parting ways with Harry Maguire next summer. The England international has lost his place in the starting lineup this season. Victor Lindelof has suffered a similar fate under Erik ten Hag.
Our skipper and the Sweden international have lost their influence in the team since the arrival of the Dutch manager. Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see the two leave the Old Trafford side in the coming months.
If either Maguire or Lindelof ends up being sold, we would evidently need to bolster the backline. To that end, Disasi is high on our radar as a possible cover in the defence.
The France international has been at Monaco since the summer of 2020 and has developed into a fine centre-back. Over the last few months, the defender has also carved a place for himself in Didier Deschamps’ squad.
