Erik ten Hag ‘prefers’ to keep Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot over Aaron Wan-Bissaka next summer

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag ‘prefers’ to keep Diogo Dalot at the club over Aaron Wan-Bissaka next summer, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).

Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong is being linked with a move to the Red Devils in the upcoming transfer window. With the Portugal international the first-choice at the Old Trafford side in the current campaign, the former Crystal Palace has been told he can leave.

The arrival of the Holland international could trigger the departure of the 25-year-old. However, it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds in the coming months.

Wan-Bissaka made his way to United in the summer of 2019 from the Eagles. For most of his career under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in Manchester, the English national was ever-present on the team sheet.

The Norwegian head coach preferred the 25-year-old on the right-hand side of the defence. However, the former Molde manager’s departure changed the Red Devils’ situation at right-back.

With the appointment of Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis, Dalot, who was a bit-part player under Ole, finally got the opportunity to play regularly for the Old Trafford side.

Subsequently, under Erik ten Hag, the Portuguese has cemented his place in the team. Prior to the 2022 World Cup, the 23-year-old started in the majority of our fixtures.

On the other hand, the Dutch manager hardly gave Wan-Bissaka an opportunity before the prestigious tournament in Qatar. But the 25-year-old has featured heavily in recent weeks and has taken the chances with both hands.

However, if an addition is made at right-back, it would make sense for the former Palace star to leave. But if Frimpong cannot be brought, will United still get rid of the English national? Only time will tell.
