Manchester United discussing the Netherlands and Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong transfer
Manchester United are considering making a move for the Netherlands and Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong in the January transfer window, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on YouTube (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are holding internal discussions about whether to pursue the 21-year-old. For a transfer to happen, the Bundesliga outfit will want €25 million.
Frimpong has been at the German club since signing from Celtic in the winter window of 2021. The Dutch national has been a regular in the BayArena side’ starting lineup over the years.
The Dutch national is familiar with English football. He made his way through the youth ranks at Manchester City before leaving for Scotland.
In the current campaign, the 21-year-old has made 21 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions. The youngster has managed to find the back of the net five times and has provided three assists.
Frimpong’s performances have also caught the attention of the Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal. The right-back was included in the former United head coach’s 26-man World Cup squad. However, the 21-year-old is yet to make an appearance in Qatar for the Oranje.
Erik ten Hag has been relying on Diogo Dalot for most of the season to play at the right-back position. The Portugal international has started almost every game for the Old Trafford side under the former Ajax head coach.
However, there seems to be no adequate backup in the squad for the former FC Porto star. While Aaron Wan-Bissaka is at Ten Hag’s disposal, he has not been afforded a lot of minutes on the pitch.

Thus, United evidently need to add depth to the squad in the right-back spot. Frimpong is a young prospect who has shown glimpses of his talent in Germany. It would be wise for the Red Devils to opt for the 21-year-old’s services.
