Real Madrid interested in England star Marcus Rashford; Manchester United concerned about his future

Spanish giants Real Madrid are interested in England and Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, with Los Blancos looking for a replacement for Karim Benzema, according to the Daily Star (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The France international is currently 34 and in the final years of his illustrious career. As a result, the La Liga outfit are looking for the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner’s successor.

Rashford is in the final year of his current deal at the Old Trafford side. The Red Devils do have the option to extend the 25-year-old’s deal by a further season though.

However, United are worried about the forward’s future at the club. As a result, the Red Devils are considering cashing in on the England international before the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

The Old Trafford side will listen to offers in the region of £80 million for Rashford if he decides against signing a new contract. United do not want to lose the forward for free in the summer of 2024.

Erik ten Hag has primarily used the 25-year-old in the number nine position in the current campaign. The academy graduate has been in fine form, racking up eight goals in all competitions for the Red Devils in the current campaign.

Rashford has also made his way back into Gareth Southgate’s plans. The 25-year-old was picked in England’s 26-man World Cup squad. He has been impressive in Qatar as well.

The Three Lions qualified first from their group. The Red Devils’ forward scored in their opening game against Iran and scored a brace in the 3-0 win over Wales in the group stages. He also came on as a substitute as Southgate’s team beat Senegal in the round of 16.

Considering the displays of Rashford this season, it would be wise for the club to keep a hold of him. Hopefully, the 25-year-old signs a new contract soon and extends his stay in Manchester.
