Manchester United in talks over new £70m shirt sponsorship deal
According to The Sun, Manchester United are in talks over a new lucrative shirt sponsorship as their existing contract with Chevrolet nears expiration.
United’s deal with the automotive giants runs until December of this year, necessitating the club to look at their options.
Ed Woodward is working on a new £70m sponsorship deal. This influx should help ease the club’s financial concerns.
Chevrolet has been synonymous with United’s kits since 2014 and was set to be canned in the summer during the zenith of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the club triggered an option to extend it by six months.
The £64m-a-year contract is the biggest in the game. Commercial deals are Woodward’s forte and he appears set to pull off another massive deal. (h/t The Daily Mail)
Talks are currently ongoing with a ‘mystery’ American software company the leading candidate to take over.
Woodward has assured the club’s investors that he believes the club will rebound successfully post the pandemic. The last 12 months have seen United struggle as much as any other club in the game.
It’s estimated that United have lost over £100m in income as a direct impact of Covid-19. This saw the club borrow an additional £60m after matchday income fell by 94.2%. (h/t The Daily Mail)
