Solskjaer confirms Manchester United star Marcus Rashford was taken off with an ankle injury against City
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Marcus Rashford was taken off against City due to an injury.
The English international injured his ankle while sprinting back to stop a City attack in its tracks. The 23-year-old lasted 73 minutes before being taken off for Mason Greenwood.
Solskjaer hopes the attacker’s issue is not serious and he will be back as soon as possible.
“It is one of them. It was a great recovery run, a recovery sprint, he saved maybe a goal, so he sacrificed himself for the team.”
However, the Norwegian did praise the forward for putting the team’s needs ahead of his. He will now undergo a scan on Monday which will give a clear indication of the severity of his injury.
“It is something with his ankle I think. I am not a doctor but hopefully it is not too bad. We will have to scan him in the morning.”
The Red Devils are already without Edinson Cavani, who missed Sunday’s game. The 34-year-old suffered an injury in training and it remains to be seen if he will be available for our next game.
The United ace suffered a muscle tear in his left shoulder in last November’s Premier League clash against Arsenal. Four months on, he does not appear to have recovered completely.
It is entirely possible that he might need surgery at the end of the season, once the European Championships are done.
