Leeds United to hold an internal meeting regarding Manchester United target Raphinha

Manchester United are on the lookout for a right-winger and are keeping tabs on Leeds United star Raphinha.

According to Portuguese publication UEL Esporte, Leeds will hold a meeting between the player and his agent this month regarding his future.

The player’s agent Deco is aware of the interest from Old Traffod and is keen to figure out the finances involved in making a potential switch to United.

A key figure in Marcelo Bielsa’s side, Raphinha has hit the ground running since arriving from Rennes last summer. He has so far made 29 appearances, registering seven goals and assists apiece. (h/t Transfermarkt)

As of now, there is no clear information as to what it will cost to secure his services. With his contract at Elland Road running until 2024, Leeds can demand a king’s ransom to let go of the player.

One advantage United have in Raphinha’s pursuit is his close relationship with Bruno Fernandes. Both of them spent the 2018/19 season together at Sporting Lisbon and racked up an impressive 39 goals and 23 assists combined. (h/t The Sun)

Despite their short time together, the duo has worked up a good rapport. Fernandes has an excellent opinion of the player and has been in regular touch with him.

Primarily a right-winger, he is also capable of playing on the other flank. The Red Devils could do with a player of his calibre.

United’s rivalry with Leeds could also play a factor in our pursuit of the player. The last player to cross that divide was Alan Smith in 2002. It is fair to say that the Elland Road faithful will not be too happy about watching Raphinha in red. (h/t The Athletic) (Subscription required).

What Leeds decides to do remains to be seen.
