Will Ed Woodward go against Glazers to make key Manchester United decision?
According to the Independent, Manchester United executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward will need to break a Glazer family rule in order to bring about the changes at the club.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has failed to convince on a consistent basis and there are rumours regarding his future at the club.
The Norwegian did a good job of ensuring we qualify for the Champions League this season. One could say he achieved just that was expected of him by the Glazers.
The Norwegian has had nearly two years to stamp his authority on the team. Unfortunately, we lack both identity and ideology, and often look out of our depth.
However, Solskjaer could be set to continue if a Glazer family rule is followed to the hilt. According to the report, the club has a policy where they won’t sack a manager until qualification for the Champions League is mathematically impossible.
Considering we are just six games into the season, such a decision is some way off. It could however be too late to salvage our campaign if we decide to axe Solskjaer. Another year without Champions League football will only make it harder for his replacement to keep us relevant.
Not a position of strength!
Currently in 15th spot, the Red Devils will need to vastly improve their performance to finish in the top four this time around.
Wins over PSG and RB Leipzig did restore a sense of belief. But we were brutally brought back to earth after the horrorshow away to Istanbul Basaksehir.
Currently winless at home in the league this season, United will be on the road come this weekend against Everton. Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit have experienced a dip in results and could be there for the taking should we turn up.
