Lucien Favre blames Manchester United interest for Jadon Sancho struggles
According to The Daily Mail, Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has blamed interest from Manchester United for unsettling Jadon Sancho.
United’s pursuit of the English international was undoubtedly the saga of the summer. Unfortunately, we were unable to sign him and the 20-year-old stayed put at Dortmund.
Sancho has enjoyed a rather underwhelming start to the new campaign. While three assists and one goal in six games is nothing to scoff at, his performances on the pitch have been lacking the usual dynamism.
According to Favre, the constant speculation may have something to do with the winger’s form.
“Every player has slow periods. There was a lot of talk about Jadon during the summer – something like that can be a factor.”
The player has also found the going hard at the international level with England. He was also involved in a Covid-19 breach during his most recent call-up when he was caught attending a party in violation of the norms.
Favre is not keen to put any pressure on Sancho to improve his performances. A seasoned manager, he is aware that dips in form are inevitable.
“No player is consistently in top form for an entire year, that’s impossible. You have to accept that.”
United for their part remains interested in Sancho. He is however not the only player on our radar. Star striker Erling Braut Haaland is another attacker we are keeping an eye on.

United improved their frontline by adding Edinson Cavani to the squad on deadline day. While the Uruguayan is a dependable striker, he is not a long-term option.
Whether we return for Sancho or even Haaland remains to be seen.
