Jesse Lingard could leave Manchester United on loan in January

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United star Jesse Lingard could be on the verge of leaving the club on loan in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has hardly featured for the club this season. In fact, both of his appearances have come in the Carabao Cup.

The English star’s representatives are exploring options ahead of the January window. Among the clubs in consideration are La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Will Jesse Lingard leave Manchester United on loan in January?

The White and the Blues are currently enjoying a fine season and are just a point behind Atletico Madrid at the top of the Spanish first division.

Lingard’s current deal at United expires next summer. However, United does have the option to extend his stay by another year. It was reported earlier this week that the club is considering doing just that.

This should help preserve the player’s value prompting a transfer bid from other clubs to seek his services in the summer. (h/t Daily Star)

Lingard has hardly featured this season

Lingard’s representatives held talks with several clubs domestically and across the continent in the summer. However, a deal did not materialize.

With the Euros coming up next summer, the prospect of Lingard making the England squad look very remote. The United star will have to not only ensure he plays regularly in the second half of the season but also put up eye-catching performances to even be in consideration.

He has not featured for England since June 2019.

Lingard has been at the club for two decades now. It is difficult to see him become anything more than a bit-part backup at best.

At 27, he still has time on his side and can go on to make a name for himself elsewhere. Unfortunately, it is difficult to see him rekindle his career at Old Trafford.
