David Ornstein has confirmed that Manchester United are looking to extend the contract of important defender
As reported by David Ornstein, Manchester United have activated an option to extend the contract of 29-year-old Victor Lindelof. The Swedish defender will now be under contract until June 2025.
According to Ornstein’s post on social media platform X (Twitter), the defender is thought to be a part of ‘important’ plans. However, the Red Devils’ decision to extend the Sweden national has been met with a lot of backlash from the fans.
Many have pointed out that Lindelof is in no way a better defender than Raphael Varane. The 29-year-old has plenty of times been the reason behind the Frenchman’s time on the sidelines.
Some have even gone so far as to say that extending players like Lindelof is the reason that Manchester United have been so mediocre lately. Well, whatever the case may be the 29-year-old is now under contract for at least one additional year.
Fans still hold the view that the player should be offloaded next summer. Whether that ends up being the Swedish defender’s fate or not is yet to be seen. Lindelof has missed the team’s last 5 games as he recovers from a Groin injury.
Before the injury, he had made 18 appearances for the team. During that stretch, the 29-year-old has recorded one goal and one assist for Manchester United (Transfermarkt). Hopefully, this isn’t a contract extension that the Old Trafford management comes to regret in the future.
