Raphael Varane could return from injury for Manchester United vs Wolves

Manchester United defender Raphael Varane could return to action after his injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) on 13 May, according to Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils will take on the Molineux Stadium side at home in the Premier League next weekend. But before that, the Old Trafford side will visit West Ham United on Sunday (7 May) in a bid to secure a top-four spot.

In the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals versus Sevilla, the French national picked up a knock and was substituted at half-time. Since then, the former Real Madrid centre-back, along with Lisandro Martinez, has been on the sidelines.

Man United blew a two-goal lead against the La Liga outfit and drew the match. Subsequently, at the Ramon Sanchez Pijuan, the Spanish club beat us 3-0.

Varane has formed a brilliant partnership with Martinez at the Old Trafford side this season. The Argentine signed for the club last summer and reunited with Erik ten Hag in Manchester.

The gaffer has preferred the two World Cup winners together in the Red Devils’ backline. But the 30-year-old has been injury prone, while the former Ajax defender is out for the rest of the campaign.

Thankfully, Man United have enough strength in depth in their backline. We can call upon Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. While our skipper and the Swedish national have lost their influence in the team since Ten Hag’s arrival, they have played together a lot in previous seasons.

Also, Luke Shaw has played well out of position as a centre-back. The 27-year-old has showcased his versatility under the Dutch manager. But the England international was at fault as he gave away a penalty in the final minute against Brighton & Hove Albion as they beat us 1-0.

Therefore, Varane’s return will evidently be a boost for the Old Trafford side. The 30-year-old has immense quality and experience and will seemingly be key in the last few matches of the campaign.
