Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong in ‘fairly advanced’ talks with Manchester United amidst interest from Real Madrid, according to SportBILD (h/t Express).

The Red Dev Devils are close to acquiring the services of the Holland national ahead of the upcoming transfer window. However, Los Blancos also have the 22-year-old on their radar.

In January, the Old Trafford side were linked with a move for Frimpong. But in the end, the club put their pursuit of the defender on hold.

While the Santiago Bernabeu side are also eyeing him, the Holland national is ‘drawn to England instead of Spain’. Therefore, we seemingly have the upper hand over Carlo Ancelotti’s team in the pursuit for the 22-year-old.

Frimpong joined Leverkusen in January 2021 from Celtic. Having impressed in previous years, the youngster has taken his game to the next level this season under the management of former Madrid star Xabi Alonso.

The ex-midfielder has gotten the best out of the Holland national in Germany. In the current campaign, the 22-year-old has made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists.

For now, Erik ten Hag can rely on Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Initially, the Portugal international was one of the first names on the Dutch manager’s teamsheet at United.

However, since the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup, the former Crystal Palace star has slowly made his way back into the gaffer’s plans and has put in some encouraging displays. But regular game time on the right-hand side of the defence is not guaranteed.

Thus, it would not be a surprise to see Wan-Bissaka leave. In that case, it is wise for the Old Trafford side to plan for the future with someone like Frimpong.

But Madrid could evidently do with another right-back in their ranks. Dani Carvajal is the only one who has been relied upon by Ancelotti this season. Thus, will Los Blancos act as a stumbling block for us in the pursuit of the Leverkusen star? Only time will tell.
