Fabrizio Romano believes the future of Raphael Varane, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro at Manchester United is doubtful during the summer. Romano highlighted that Varane has not received a new deal while Eriksen and Casemiro’s future remains in doubt.

Manchester United have struggled throughout this season, causing an early exit from the Champions League and the Carabao Cup. They barely managed to reach the FA Cup final after beating Coventry City on penalties during the semi-finals.

The Championship side made an impressive comeback after being 3-0 down and almost notched a winning goal. The match officials disallowed the late extra-time goal from Coventry due to an offside decision as Man United struggled.

The Red Devils suffered a 1-1 draw at home against relegation side Burnley yesterday in the Premier League clash. The draw puts them mathematically incapable of finishing in the top four, their minimum expectation for the current season.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Romano highlighted the uncertain future of three veteran players, Varane, Casemiro and Eriksen. He said:

“[Anthony] Martial is leaving, [Raphael] Varane at the moment is not being offered a new deal, but we have to see what happens with [Christian] Eriksen, Casemiro – there are many situations to discuss. This is why at the moment, it is difficult to see and to mention how many signings United will do.”

Varane has struggled with consistency and fitness during this season, playing second fiddle to make-shift centre-back Luke Shaw at times. The Frenchman has lost his claim as a first-choice centre-back as United continued to leak goals with or without him.

Meanwhile, whenever Casemiro and Eriksen played together they left big gaps between the midfield and the defence. The opposition midfield easily shrugs them off due to their lack of stamina and pace.

Erik ten Hag deployed the 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo who easily secured his position as a first-team regular. United could offload the trio, saving major wages while bringing young and hungry talents during the summer. However, any clubs willing to spend big on them is a completely different matter and up for speculation for now.
