Michael Owen believes Manchester United are in the title race
As quoted by the Mirror, former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes that the Red Devils are in the title race following the sequence of results on Saturday.
League leaders Arsenal came back twice to beat Aston Villa to restore their first spot in the table. But, defending champions Manchester City dropped two points against Nottingham Forest.
What it means is that if United manage to beat Leicester City later today, they will only be three points behind City and five behind Arsenal. With plenty of football still to be played, nothing seems decided on who is going to lift the title in May.
Talking about the race and how the Red Devils are still in contention, here’s Owen (h/t Mirror):
“And Arsenal, even though they’ve had a couple of iffy results in recent times, they’re probably sat there confident now. They’ve gained another couple of points on Manchester City – and probably had the harder game.
“Everyone knows there are going to be so many ups and downs and twists – and nobody is mentioning Manchester United. Because if Manchester City are involved, and obviously Manchester United, if they win their game in hand, they’re only three points behind City, so you cannot rule anything out at the moment. But you’d have to say that Arsenal are in the driving seat.”
It is a balanced view from Owen. However, we have seen Arsenal being defensively vulnerable in the last few games. Even in the win over Villa, the Gunners were indebted to Aaron Ramsdale for making a few good saves.
On the other hand, City, who we all are expecting will go on a winning run sooner rather than later, are struggling to find consistent form.
Does this put United in the reckoning if we win our game against Leicester? Most definitely so. Erik ten Hag might not admit that but the fans can dream about this title race becoming a three-way race.
It is incredible to think that eight months after taking charge of a messy club, ten Hag has got us into a position where we are alive in all four competitions. Even if the title race ends up with another club lifting the trophy, it is important to stay close and feel what it’s like to get there.

All that optimism can only start if we beat the Foxes today. There are big games to look forward to, with Barcelona coming for the second leg of the Europa League tie on Thursday and the Carabao Cup Final is there next Sunday.
