Former Manchester United forward Michael Owen believes that the price tag of Mason Mount was justified

Former Manchester United forward Michael Owen shared his opinion about the price tag of Mason Mount. Owen justified the price paid by the Red Devils, citing Mount’s age and quality as justifications.

The 43-year-old held the number 7 jersey for the Red Devils during his time at Old Trafford. Mount presently dons the legendary number previously worn by figures such as David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

United signed Owen in the summer of 2009 under the leadership of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The Red Devils signed the legendary English forward in a pay-as-you-play deal due to his decline in performance. The signing generated huge controversy at the time as Owen was the academy product of arch-rivals Liverpool. The former Liverpool forward achieved great success at an early age with the Merseyside giants.

Owen spoke about Mount’s signing with United in the YouTube interview for Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE channels. He said:

“He is a very good signing; I think they paid the going rate, I think it is a decent chunk of money, but he is young, he is English and he is going to be there for a long time. He is obviously a very good player. I don’t think anyone can complain about that signing.”

The Red Devils signed Mount from Chelsea for an initial £55m that could rise to £60m based on add-ons. The 24-year-old spent 18 years at Chelsea before signing with United during the summer transfer window.

The England international made 195 appearances for the Blues while contributing to 33 goals and 37 assists. Mount had a tough start to his United career as he has appeared in six matches and contributed one assist.

United boss Erik ten Hag deployed Mount in a deeper role contrary to the attacking role during his Chelsea days. The Dutchman signed the England international as he suited the profile that Ten Hag wanted. The 24-year-old’s ability to cover distances and create chances aligns with the required profile and is well-known.

Mount has received a lot of criticism for his sub-par performances so far for the Red Devils. However, the England international suffered an unfortunate injury which didn’t help him adjust to the new system. We believe that Mount possesses all the qualities and talent necessary to excel at a top club like United. The Red Devils are struggling with consistency which is why the Englishman needs to adapt sooner rather than later.
