Michael Owen believes “no player wants to play against” Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Former Manchester United star Michael Owen believes “no player wants to play against” Aaron Wan-Bissaka after his performance against Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old started as the Red Devils visited his former club in the Premier League. In the end, the Old Trafford side had to share the spoils as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

However, the England U21 international put in another great display for United. In the current campaign, the right-back has lost his place in the team to Diogo Dalot.

Erik ten Hag has preferred the Portugal international in the starting lineup this season. The 23-year-old has played the majority of the minutes on the right-hand side of the defence since the Dutch manager’s arrival.

But Dalot has been on the sidelines a lot since his return from Qatar. The Portuguese has been unavailable for selection in recent fixtures. As a result, Wan-Bissaka has been given multiple chances,

Against Palace, the 25-year-old was solid defensively. He pulled off a brilliant tackle on Wilfried Zaha in the dying minutes with the forward through on goal. Speaking after the match to Premier League Productions (h/t Metro), Owen hailed the right-back’s defensive prowess.

“I think when the teamsheets came out Wilfried Zaha saw that Wan-Bissaka was going to be marking him in that game he would’ve been thinking, ‘oh no’. Because no player wants to play against the likes of Wan-Bissaka.”

Wan-Bissaka signed for United in the summer of 2019 from Palace. The 25-year-old was the first name on the team sheet for most of his time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, with the Norwegian gaffer’s departure, the England U21 international went down the pecking order. Prior to the 2022 World Cup, he had only played 4 minutes of first-team football.

Thankfully, Wan-Bissaka has deputised admirably in Dalot’s absence. The 25-year-old is evidently going to be key for us for the rest of the campaign in case the Portuguese picks up any more injuries.
