Napoli looking to ‘cancel’ £39m release clause in the contract of Manchester United target and South Korea star Kim Min-jae
Serie A giants Napoli are looking to ‘cancel’ the £39 million release clause in the contract of South Korea star Kim Min-jae amidst links to Manchester United, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t Express).
The Red Devils are targeting the centre-back to bolster their defensive options in the upcoming transfer windows. Having signed for the Partenopei in the summer of 2022 from Turkish side Fenerbahce, the defender’s deal included a release clause.
Subsequently, the 26-year-old’s impressive performances have garnered him attention from various clubs. The Old Trafford side, along with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, are monitoring the former Beijing Guoan star.
Now, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is looking to hand Min-jae a new deal. The Serie A outfits chief wants the release clause to be removed or increased. The South Korean’s representatives have already been contacted by a few clubs.
In the current campaign, the Partenopei are flying high. Luciano Spalletti’s team are sitting at the top of the league table. The Naples-based club have also qualified for the Champions League round of 16, where they will face Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 26-year-old is also enjoying a fruitful World Cup campaign. Paulo Bento’s team have managed to survive the group stage and progressed to the next round at the expense of Uruguay.
United have a stacked defence
United’s backline is stacked at the moment. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been Erik ten Hag’s preferred partnership in the current campaign. The French and Argentine duo have been relatively solid for us.
However, Harry Maguire is also an option. The Dutch manager has relegated him to the bench in the current campaign. But our captain is making a case for more game time with his performances in Qatar. Victor Lindelof is also in the squad.
