Bayern Munich reach an agreement with Manchester United target and Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae

Manchester United target and Napoli star Kim Min-jae has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich over personal terms, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The South Korea international has accepted a five-year contract, until 2028, with the Bavarians. Now, all that remains for the Bundesliga giants to acquire the centre-back’s services is paying his release clause.

After the 2022/23 campaign, the 26-year-old has established himself as a world-class defender. He was instrumental as the Partenopei lifted the Serie A title after over three decades.

Napoli signed Min-jae from Fenerbahce to replace Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer of 2022. The South Korean has filled the void left by the Senegalese admirably. He made 45 appearances in all competitions for the Italian outfit last term, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Luciano Spalletti counted on the centre-back as the Naples-based club cruised to the Scudetto. The Partenopei also made it to the quarter-finals in the Champions League last season.

At Bayer, Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs De Ligt have formed a decent partnership at the back. However, the Bavarians could lose Lucas Hernandez in the ongoing transfer window.

On the other hand, United also have the formidable pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at their disposal. The two World Cup winners were preferred by Erik ten Hag in the previous campaign.

We also have Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire in our ranks. The Sweden international showcased his qualities towards the end of the 2022/23 term, deputising admirably for the injured Martinez.

Therefore, if the Red Devils are able to keep hold of our current defence, then there is seemingly no need to add more reinforcements. While Min-jae is a solid player, for now, our backline is secure.
