Portugal and former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo ‘very tempted’ by move to Chelsea
Former Manchester United forward and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘very tempted’ by a move to Premier League outfit Chelsea, according to Calciomercato reporter Daniele Longo on Twitter (h/t Express).
The 37-year-old parted ways with the Red Devils midway through the season after his controversial interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan. As a result, the forward is now a free agent.
Todd Boehly was interested in bringing the forward to the Stamford Bridge side in the summer of 2022. However, in the end, the Blues got Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona.
However, now Ronaldo is being linked with a move to Chelsea once again. And the Portuguese icon would have no problem with the criticism he would get from United fans for joining a rival.
Graham Potter’s team signed Raheem Sterling to bolster the forward line in the recent transfer window as well. However, the Blues have seemingly struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis.
The Stamford Bridge side parted ways with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in the summer of 2022. However, the likes of Arado Broja, Kai Havertz and others have failed to make a considerable impact in West London.
As for United, Ronaldo’s departure has meant Erik ten Hag has one less option for
the number nine position. While the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s influence in the squad was not the same under the Dutch manager, Anthony Martial’s injuries made the 37-year-old a key player.Marcus Rashford has been preferred by Ten Hag as the striker for most of the campaign. However, while the 25-year-old has been decent, he leaves a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Ronaldo joining a direct rival would hurt. Chelsea and United are both fighting for a place in the top four this season. Hopefully, the 37-year-old will opt to move elsewhere.
