Erik ten Hag claims Manchester United will improve with the return of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag has claimed that Manchester United are bound to improve once Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial start featuring regularly.
The aforementioned duo have had their struggles since the beginning of the season. Ronaldo missed almost the entirety of the pre-season due to personal reasons and took some time to get back up to speed with the rest of the players.
Ronaldo seems to be slowly getting back to the levels required and seems to be gaining more prominence in Erik ten Hag’s team and if he can manage to stay fit, he will be a great option for the Dutch tactician.
Anthony Martial has had completely opposite fortunes. The Frenchman came back from his loan spell at Sevilla with a point to prove and began the pre-season like a man possessed and proved to be one of Ten Hag’s most important players.
However, the French striker got injured just before the end of the preseason. Since then, he has made a couple of returns from injury but has suffered a relapse on every single occasion. He is very close to a return yet again.
Once Martial is back, he is set to play an important role in ten Hag’s team provided he can maintain his fitness. It is interesting to see how the Dutchman integrates both Ronaldo and Martial into his team when the duo are fit.
When asked if the Red Devils will improve when the aforementioned duo are back, Ten Hag conceded that it could be the case.
“We had to deal with problems offensively from the start: Cristiano Ronaldo was unavailable, Anthony Martial was not on the pitch and didn’t play a full game until now. I’m sure when that is better, with two No.9s present and fit in a good, combative shape, the results from the team will improve”
Man United have been having a very interesting season till date. After a poor start to the campaign, Ten Hag has found his footing in the Premier League and the club have largely performed well except for the odd blip.

Let’s hope Martial is back soon and Ronaldo returns to his best. It will make Man United look all the more dangerous and make them more competitive on all fronts.
