Luke Shaw waxes lyrical about “unbelievable” Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has praised “unbelievable” Lisandro Martinez for the impact he has had in the team. The England international has been blown away by the Argentine’s impact.

Martinez started for the Red Devils against Newcastle United in the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford. The Argentine has started in every Premier League game for the Manchester-based club.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News after the draw, Shaw raved about Martinez. The left-back is glad to have a left-footed centre-back like the Argentine alongside him in the team.

“(He has been) unbelievable, to be honest. You can see everyone loves him. The fans love him.

“His left foot is unbelievable. I think it always helps when you play with a left-footer on the side because he naturally likes to come out to that side, and I think he has fitted in really well.”

Martinez signed for the Red Devils in the recent transfer window from Ajax. The 24-year-old reunited with Erik ten Hag in Manchester after their successful spell in Amsterdam.

The centre-back has been trusted by the Dutch manager from the start of the season. Man United did not have the best of starts to the 2022/23 campaign, with two back-to-back losses.

However, Ten Hag decided to drop Maguire from the backline instead of the Argentine. And pairing the 24-year-old with Raphael Varane has been relatively successful for the Red Devils.

With Martinez and the 2018 World Cup winner in defence, we went on a four-game win streak in the league before being beaten by Manchester City. Apart from the 6-3 loss in the derby, our defence has looked solid since the defeat to Brentford.

The Argentine brings with him aggressiveness and quality on the ball. He has the ability to play line-breaking passes from the defence. And while the defender’s height was a point of concern for some, the 24-year-old has put those doubts to bed.

Hopefully, Martinez can continue to perform the way he is performing. In the Argentine, Man United seem to have a centre-back for the long-term.
