Anthony Martial speaks in glowing terms about ‘hard worker’ Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has spoken in glowing terms about Portuguese icon and teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. The France international admires the work the 37-year-old does off the pitch.
Martial made his way to the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco. Ronaldo returned to United last summer after having left in 2009 for Real Madrid.
Speaking on the Portuguese via France Football (h/t Metro), the French centre-forward talks about Ronaldo’s personality. The pair often have conversations when they are in the gym and Martial looks at what the 37-year-old does closely.
“He’s super humble – and what a hard worker!
“We often speak when we are at the gym in the morning before going to training and I would watch what he was doing. That’s only logical, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo!”
Ronaldo ended the previous campaign as United’s top goalscorer. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was the only player to live up to fans’ expectations.
Other forwards in the side, like Martial, were unable to make a significant impact in the team in the 2021/22 season. The France international left Manchester in January and joined Sevilla on loan.
Upon returning to United, Martial seemingly found himself in the good books of new boss Erik ten Hag. The 26-year-old put in impressive performances during pre-season. However, the Frenchman has not been able to show his talent during the start of the campaign due to injury.
Martial has featured in just one competitive game, and that was against Liverpool in the Premier League. In the North West derby, the 26-year-old came on after half-time and provided an assist for the Red Devils’ second goal as we beat the Merseysiders 2-1.
On the other hand, Ronaldo has seemingly found it difficult to settle into Ten Hag’s plans. The 37-year-old has had to settle for a substitute role, starting two games in all competitions as of yet.

Ronaldo is a top athlete. Hopefully, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner can get back to his best and help us achieve success this season – which would, right now, include winning at least one trophy and qualifying for the Champions League next season.
