Ajax forward Antony will ‘think twice’ about Manchester United move after successive Premier League losses
According to De Telegraaf (Subscription Required) [h/t Mirror], Ajax Amsterdam forward Antony seems to no longer be keen on reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. The Red Devils’ losses in the first two games of the new Premier League campaign have supposedly changed the Brazilian’s mind.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to United throughout the summer. But the attacker who thrived under United’s new manager in the Eredivisie isn’t interested in a transfer anymore.
Ten Hag’s first competitive game in the Old Trafford dugout didn’t go as planned. We conceded two goals in the first half. Brighton & Hove Albion split open our defence and Pascal Gross scored a brace in the first 45 minutes.
United lacked creativity and penetration in the second half against the Seagulls. While we did manage to score a goal, it was a scrappy one. In the end, we failed to secure even a point.
The second fixture saw the Manchester-based club visit the Gtech Community Stadium. Brentford started the game on the front foot. And the game got even more catastrophic than the first one.
The Bees scored four past David de Gea in around 35 minutes of the opening half. Thomas Frank’s side then were comfortable sitting back in the second half. The game ended 4-0.
While the defence takes significant blame for United’s nightmare start, the midfield and attack haven’t provided any sort of impetus to the team either. The Red Devils’ forward line looked lost in both matches.
On the other hand, Antony’s 2022/23 campaign has gotten off to a great start. The 22-year-old has two goals and two assists to his name in three appearances in all competitions.

The lack of strength in depth up front is a concern for United fans. The pre-season looked promising. But Ten Hag appears to lack the appropriate players for his system. Antony is someone who had two fruitful seasons with the Dutch manager at Ajax.
