Manchester United are set to receive €6m boost from SL Benfica
As reported by Manchester Evening News, SL Benfica are expected to cash in on Manchester United loanee, Alvaro Fernandez. The 21-year-old has been impressive during his stint with the Liga Portugal side.
Fernandez has made 13 appearances for the team recording just one goal but his outings have been fairly positive. At 21 the Spanish defender still has a lot of room to grow.
Benfica are banking on his growth and will be looking to make him a permanent addition this summer. Man United added a clause to Alvaro’s loan deal which states the club would have to buy the 21-year-old if he started 50% of his games.
SL Benfica are very close to triggering Alvaro’s clause and will have to pay €6m plus €3m in potential add-ons to sign him. This would provide a nice FFP boost to Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been counting on player sales to facilitate their transfer market activities this season. Alvaro could be the first of many stars to leave, however, the 21-year-old could come back in the future.
Man United added a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause in the Spanish defender’s contract, so depending on how he develops the team could get him back and reintegrate him back to the squad.
