Stan Collymore urges Manchester United to sell Bruno Fernandes
Former Aston Villa and Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has come out with a bold suggestion for Manchester United: it’s time to cash in on Bruno Fernandes, even though the Portuguese ace has been the standout performer for the Red Devils this season.
In a season marked by ups and downs, with only an FA Cup final against arch-rivals Manchester City to salvage some pride, Fernandes, at 29, has been a shining beacon for United. With 15 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances under his belt, his contributions have been absolutely crucial in keeping the team afloat.
However, he made a mess with his recent comments about his long-term future at Manchester United, which in all honesty, seemed as double-edged as they could get. In context to that, Stan Collymore has urged Man United to cash in on the player.
Here is what Collymore had to say in an exclusive with CaughtOffside:
“Very good player? Yes! — Captain material? Absolutely not,”
“The fact that he hinted earlier this week that he could be up for a move away tells me that he doesn’t have the stomach for the fight, doesn’t believe in the future project and wants a bit of the easy life — something you just don’t ever get at United.”
“For me, along with Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and Antony he’ll be a poster boy for the era at United where promise was abundant but excuses and not delivering were the reality.”
“Sell and move on!”
Time’s up for Bruno?
Collymore’s message is crystal clear: Fernandes, along with other key figures like Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, and Antony, symbolises a period at United characterised by unfulfilled promises and endless excuses. He firmly believes it’s time for the club to offload players who haven’t lived up to their potential.
Bruno’s contract at the club lasts until 2026 (Transfermarkt). While it is true that we can get a decent transfer fee for him, he’s worth more than just that money to the club. United should approach this decision with caution. While Fernandes may have his flaws, his on-field performances cannot be overlooked. He has consistently delivered top-class performances, and his contributions have been invaluable to the team.
Furthermore, while there may be concerns about Fernandes’ ability to captain the side, he has not been outrightly bad in that role either. He has shown leadership qualities on several occasions and has been a vocal presence on the pitch.

Ultimately, the decision to part ways with Fernandes should not be taken lightly. United must weigh the pros and cons carefully and consider the impact his departure would have on the team. While Collymore makes a compelling argument, Fernandes’ talent and impact on the pitch cannot be ignored.
