Romano: European giant’s CL run could determine their pursuit of out-of-favour Man Utd star in the summer

Fabrizio Romano briefs on the Jadon Sancho-Dortmund situation for Manchester United

The signing of Jadon Sancho has been a wonderful development for Borussia Dortmund and the player himself as he has put in a wonderful shift for the Bundesliga side on loan from Manchester United. For the German club, they get a player who will put in at least 7/10 week in and week out.

Sancho himself gets to showcase his skill in an environment comfortable for him and Erik ten Hag, sees away a player who does not want to play under him. And better, he can fetch a fat cheque for the player in the summer in case Dortmund want a permanent move. It is very clear that ETH and Sanch don’t get along and the English winger is unlikely to stay at the club.

Speaking on this situation, Fabrizio Romano had an intriguing update to share. Sancho’s wonderful performances have been instrumental in Dortmund’s deep UCL run, and they would ideally want to keep him at the club.

Is the Jadon Sancho situation finally done for Manchester United?

Here is what the journalist noted in his Daily Briefing via Substack [subscription required]:

“It’s really important news for Borussia Dortmund. Why? Obviously they have the importance of Champions League but also the fresh money from the competition so that they can really attack their two main targets.”

“The first one is to keep Jadon Sancho. It’s not going to be easy but Dortmund will meet with Manchester United and try to find a solution. So let’s see what’s going to happen.”

The 23-cap England international has 17 appearances for Dortmund this season. He has scored three goals and has two assists to boot. While the numbers don’t appear great, it is his general performance that has caught the eye of the football audience.

How is it possible that the same player struggles to put in a shift at Old Trafford but performs at that level of consistency for Dortmund? Is it a case of him finding his level? Nevertheless, the solution for United is far from simple.

It all depends on our managerial situation. It is no secret that Erik ten Hag is under a lot of pressure to keep his job. That situation might change with the FA Cup, but still, the fact remains, he has been underwhelming. If INEOS decide to stick with the Dutchman, we can wave Sancho away for good.

His other hand on his other ear and this wouldn’t even have been an issue.

However, if there is a change on that front, there might be a place for Sancho at United. He is our best attacker (yes, our best attacker is on loan at another club). Adding to that though, if Sancho takes a lot of convincing, we might be better off without him. If he has his head in the right place and has a decent attitude towards United, then we might think of it. Or else, cash in.
