According to Marca (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have gotten in touch with the representatives of Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix to discuss the possibility of a transfer this summer.

The Red Devils are ‘plotting’ a move for the 22-year-old. United don’t have strength in depth in the forward line. Felix is being linked with the club as a possible option to bolster the attack.

Erik ten Hag’s side has seen just three arrivals this transfer window. None of our signings has been an attacking player. We’ve signed Christian Eriksen, but the Danish midfielder has played the majority of his career as a number 10.

United lack alternatives up front. Anthony Martial has been sidelined for the first couple of games. Cristiano Ronaldo joined pre-season late and was on the bench against Brighton & Hove Albion in the first half. Ten Hag didn’t have another natural centre-forward and opted to play Eriksen in the position.

United’s attack lacks depth

The dearth of attacking options is evident at the Manchester-based club. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho haven’t been performing up to the mark. But the Dutch manager can only turn to the likes of Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho to replace them.

The issue could be compounded further with last season’s top goalscorer wanting to leave Manchester. Ronaldo’s future at the club is uncertain at the moment. The legendary number seven was the only attacker who lived up to expectations in the 2021/22 campaign.

On the other hand, Martial left the club in January on loan after failing to get an opportunity under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Rashford and Sancho also lacked the impact people were hoping for.

Felix is one of the biggest prospects in world football. Atletico paid big money for the Portugal international. How much the Spanish giants will demand to part ways with the 22-year-old remains to be seen.
