Man United make Anthony Martial transfer U-turn after the arrival of Erik Ten Hag
According to the Mirror (h/t the Express), Manchester United have made a big U-turn on the future of Anthony Martial after the arrival of Erik ten Hag. The French striker failed to impress last season and the fans would have thought that the striker would leave this season.
The former AS Monaco striker joined the club in 2015 in a much-hyped move. Although he came in with a lot of promise, he wasn’t able to be a consistent player at Old Trafford. The 2019/20 season was a fruitful one for the striker but he put in below-par performances in the following two seasons.
The board had decided to let him join Sevilla on loan but he failed to make a mark in Spain. The 26-year-old returned back with just one goal to his name and it seemed that this would be his final summer with the Red Devils.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer speculations started making rounds after the arrival of Ten Hag. However, Martial’s importance in the squad was felt as soon as the player started banging in goals in the preseason matches.
Anthony Martial Would Be Willing To Help the Club Save Millions
The French striker has scored three goals in three preseason games and above that has been working hard in training. Ronaldo’s uncertain future has further fueled talks that the Red Devils would prefer to keep Martial in the squad. It would be much better than going all out for a new striker.
The 26-year-old has scored 79 goals for United, a number which could increase this year if he continues to get backed by the manager. The star striker could help the club save millions by taking the responsibility to spearhead the attack next season.
Erik ten Hag hasn’t ruled out a return for Cristiano Ronaldo as he still has the striker in his plans. However, the final decision would be made by the player after he returns from the holidays.
But, his agent has apparently already offered his player to several clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea. Ben Jacobs even claimed that Jorge Mendes would have convinced the striker to take a pay cut if needed.

But the Ronaldo saga would have little influence on Martial’s future if the striker continues to perform well under Ten Hag. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Anthony Martial would be expected to make it into the starting XI in their first Premier League match against Brighton.
It remains to be seen whether Martial’s chances would be affected if Ronaldo stays at the club.
