Erik ten Hag urges Anthony Martial to be available more often for Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged Anthony Martial to be available more often for the Red Devils amidst his fitness issues.
The French national has suffered multiple setbacks in the current campaign. Since the Dutch manager’s appointment in the Old Trafford side’s dugout, the 27-year-old has spent most of his time on the sidelines.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag believes United are a much better team with Martial in it. However, the gaffer realises that the striker’s constant absence from the squad is a cause for concern.

“If you are not available, you can’t score. When he was available we played better, the team is winning games, he’s also scoring goals but he has to be available.”
The former AS Monaco star has been at the Manchester-based club since the summer of 2015. Unfortunately, the French national has been unable to fulfil his potential at the Old Trafford side over the years.
However, during pre-season under Ten Hag, the 27-year-old had put in some encouraging performances. But he got injured before the start of the campaign and has been in and out of the team ever since.
But in most of the matches Martial has featured in for the Dutch manager at United, he has managed to do well. The forward has managed to score eight goals and has provided three assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.

Unfortunately, the French national has not completed the full 90 minutes in any game for the Old Trafford side in the current campaign.
In January, the Red Devils signed Wout Weghorst on a short-term loan from Burnley. The Holland international has provided cover in the number nine position in the former Monaco star’s absence. Ten Hag has relied a lot on the 30-year-old in the last few months.

While Martial is a decent striker, constantly being out of action makes him a liability for United, considering we do not have an adequate backup option. Therefore, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the French national.
