Transfer News: Juventus weighing up a move for Manchester United ace David de Gea
According to transfer news on Todofichajes (h/t The Mirror), Juventus are lining up a move for Manchester United ace David de Gea amidst contract uncertainty.
The 31-year-old has been magnificent for the Old Trafford outfit this season. Dean Henderson was in line to start for the Red Devils this season, but De Gea took the spot after the Englishman contracted the coronavirus a couple of weeks before the beginning of the current campaign.
The Spaniard has since justified his selection by bailing out Man United on more than one occasion. But Henderson has not given up on taking the No 1 spot, while the former Atletico Madrid star only has 18 months left on his contract. The Manchester-based club are yet to renew his deal, and the shot-stopper now has a suitor in waiting.
Juventus are looking for a long-term replacement for Wojciech Szczesny, who struggled last term but has picked up form again this season. Regardless, if De Gea does decide to end his Man United career, the Old Lady are thought to be willing to sign him.
Not impossible
Barring Cristiano Ronaldo, the Spanish international has probably been our best player this season. His reflexes and world-class saves have secured crucial points against minnows as well as top opposition. In fact, his performances in the Champions League went a long way in ensuring top spot in the group.
Thus, it does not make sense to part ways with him anytime soon. However, there is no need to hand him a new deal until the end of the season. In the past, his form has dropped off a cliff and he has been guilty of making silly mistakes. Moreover, Henderson is set to stay at the club after Ralf Rangnick blocked any potential move for him in January.
Additionally, the English international has a contract until 2025, indicating that he is the long-term heir to the goalkeeping throne. But a lot of this depends upon how long can De Gea continue performing at the top level without experiencing a blip in form.

Thus, it would be unwise to sell him immediately but depending upon his form, a calculated decision could be made in six months or in a year. The player could have his own ambitions, but Man United need to look out for their best interests. For now, the goalkeeper’s focus needs to be securing a victory against Wolves on Monday night.
