Transfer News: Juventus shortlist Manchester United star Edinson Cavani
According to transfer news from Italian newspaper Gazzetta (h/t tbrfootball), Juventus has shortlisted Manchester United star Edinson Cavani to replace Alvaro Morata if the latter leaves for Barcelona.
Edinson Cavani played a massive role in Manchester United’s last season’s success. The 34-year-old took the leadership role in the attacking unit and proved his worth. However, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer has changed the scenario.
Previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær found it challenging to pair both stars in the starting 11. Cavani was also out due to injury this term, which has affected his game time. The former PSG star has only featured in 10 matches across all competitions this season. Furthermore, the decrease in-game time has affected his influence on the squad.
On the other hand, Juventus has their own problem with their forward line as Alvaro Morata is closing on a move to Barcelona. The Old Lady has shortlisted Liverpool forward Divock Origi. At the same time, Cavani is also treated as a choice for the position.
Edinson Cavani is no doubt an ageing superstar. However, the Uruguayan star has shown that hunger and desire are still there. The 34-year-old has shown incredible professionalism and a top-notch work rate whenever given a chance. Ronaldo doesn’t go unnoticed in such specifications. These characteristics indicate why the two players have achieved so much in their careers.
Ronaldo’s arrival could be unplanned when Cavani joined because the manager hadn’t found the solution to start them together. But in recent matches, it is evident that they both can contribute. Ronaldo has been the protagonist in this term. But Cavani deserves more chances.

The Uruguayan forward is still has the ability to provide game-saving knocks, and he proved that by netting a goal against Newcastle United on Monday. Therefore, Ralf Rangnick should find a way to include the 34-year-old in his system as that would be advantageous for both parties. Even though the interest from Juventus is premature, Cavani’s lack of game time could push him towards an exit.
