Transfer News: Manchester United eager on move for Barcelona ace Ronald Araujo
According to transfer news on El Nacional (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United firmly believe that Barcelona ace Ronald Araujo could resolve their defensive issues.
The 22-year-old ace was promoted to the senior set-up at the start of last season. He has since made 58 appearances for the Blaugrana club and has been a regular this season. The Nou Camp outfit may not have fared well, but they have looked relatively sturdy with the Uruguayan international in the backline.
But he has now caught the attention of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Man United. However, the Red Devils are eager on beating the competition as they believe that Araujo can resolve their defensive issues.
In an added boost, it is also claimed that due to the financially tricky situation of the Spanish club, the centre-back could be available for £30million.
Do we need Araujo?
The defence has been a shambles this season. Harry Maguire looked tired from the get-go, following a draining 2020/21 season and the European championship. Raphael Varane has been good when he has played, but injuries have hindered his confidence. Victor Lindelof has been composed on the ball but is easily dominated by burly strikers.
Eric Bailly is fast, strong, and experienced, but rashness in challenges and inconsistencies have made it nearly impossible for him to maintain a spot in the starting XI. All of these issues have also culminated in us conceding 26 league goals, 2 more than 18th placed Burnley. Thus, defensive reinforcements are certainly due, and Araujo could be the solution.
The centre-back is of a good age profile and is in the midst of establishing himself on the international stage. Moreover, Barcelona are currently in a rebuild and it remains to be seen how much of a part does he wish to play in that process. Man United, on the other hand, are one of the best clubs in England.

We might not have won the title for nearly a decade now but remain viable contenders in the coming seasons. Liverpool and Chelsea could offer the same prospects, but the prestige of playing at Old Trafford has been enough to lure world-class players in the past. However, only time will tell where Araujo’s preferred destination lies if he does decide to call it quits at the Catalan club.
