Erik ten Hag says he isn’t surprised by the emergence of Manchester United youngster, Kobbie Mainoo.

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag isn’t ‘surprised’ by the rapid ascent of young Kobbie Mainoo. The 18-year-old midfielder recently got his first cap for the England squad. He was awarded with the MOTM award in just his second game.

He has also been a key part behind the Red Devils still being in the race for UCL qualification. Erik ten Hag had a lot of good things to say about the young star, let’s have a look. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

“I thought it was very good but we are not surprised,”

“We know what he is capable of, he can very quickly adapt to high levels. It looks very natural and we are very happy for him.

The Dutchman also mentioned that producing such a promising youngster is great for the Manchester United Academy as well. If the day ever comes when United have to sell the youngster they’ll be able to make pure profit through him.

However, Kobbie Mainoo is just getting started at Manchester United. If he continues to get playing time he will keep developing and getting better. But, the 18-year-old must realise that his biggest priority right now should be to stay healthy and be consistent.

We have seen a lot of young players come in get the world excited and then disappear into thin air after teams overplay them and injuries ruin their careers.

Mainoo has been playing a lot of minutes for both club and country. The managers should try and ease the load off the 18-year-old star.

Hopefully, Mainoo will not be added to the long list of football’s “what ifs”.
