Manchester United star Edinson Cavani makes it clear to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he wants to start against Man City on the weekend
Speaking to the United Review (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United ace Edinson Cavani has made it clear to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he wishes to be involved in the derby against Man City on Saturday.
The star striker suffered for game-time at the start of the season, after the Red Devils added Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho to the frontline. However, the Uruguayan was not going to back down from the challenge and made only his second league start of the season against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The 34-year-old made it count as he combined well in a strike partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo as United smashed Spurs 3-0. He was dropped for the midweek tie against Atalanta but did come on as a substitute.
‘El Matador’ has now made it clear that he wants to be involved in the derby against Man City, given the history of the game and its importance this season. Cavani told the United Review (h/t The Mirror):
“I understand perfectly well what these games mean, and I feel just how significant a derby is for a club and its fan base. I think there are some games that are really special, because of all the history behind them and the rivalry that exists with the other club.
“They are the kind of games that I think everyone, including me at least, wants to be involved in because they are very special occasions. Games that remain part of history and stay in everyone’s memory.”

Featuring in this game would mean a lot to the centre-forward after he failed to feature in both matches against Pep Guardiola’s men last season. Moreover, he did not start the derby against Liverpool either a couple of weeks ago.
Cavani is a big game player, and if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to maintain his fine record against the Etihad outfit, the Uruguayan international will certainly help our chances of taking all the bragging rights at the full-time whistle.
