Manchester United could revisit the signing of Atletico Madrid ace Kieran Trippier in January after formation switch

According to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United could approach Atletico Madrid ace Kieran Trippier over a move in January after changing formations.

The Red Devils had a poor October as they failed to pick up a league victory until the end of the month. Heavy defeats to Leicester and Liverpool put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under a lot of pressure, and the Norwegian had been given three games to produce a turnaround.

Their first test was against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, and the 48-year-old manager changed formations as he reverted to a back three. The tactical switch brought the best out of most of Solskjaer’s stars, with Aaron wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw also looking far more secure in the wing-back roles.

However, while Shaw still looks threatening on the left, Wan-Bissaka could improve slightly in that area. In fact, to provide the young Englishman with some competition, the Red Devils were targeting a deal for Atletico ace Trippier.

That move never panned out as the former Spurs man remained with the La Liga club over the summer. But it is thought that the 13-time Premier League champions could now reignite their interest in the full-back in January, especially after the formation change, as per Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The right-back provides a lot of defensive cover, and his forays into the attacking phase of the game could benefit the Old Trafford outfit.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson also recently claimed that the defender would only move to United if he does decide to come back to Britain.

However, it remains to be seen whether Diego Simeone would be open to letting one of his main stars leave the club mid-season. Thus, it would be down to Solskjaer & co to present an attractive offer to the La Liga club to let go of their prized asset.
