Man City have earmarked Leicester City Brendan Rodgers as new manager amidst Manchester United links
Speaking to The Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Express), The Times’ Jonathan Northcroft has revealed that Man City are eyeing Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers amidst links to Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing a lot of pressure at Old Trafford after being knocked out of the EFL Cup and going out of the Top 4 in the Premier League. Their Champions League aspirations are still alive, with the club leading in the group but are yet to qualify for the knockout stages.
There have been calls to sack the Norwegian, and some managers have been shortlisted as potential replacements. Brendan Rodgers is one of the options to replace the 48-year-old United gaffer after his brilliant work with Leicester over the last couple of years.
However, they are now set to receive competition from their rivals as Man City have earmarked the former Liverpool manager as the heir to Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard has delivered several titles to the Etihad outfit over the last half a decade, but his contract is set to expire in 2023.
The Times’ journalist Jonathan Northcroft explained how the reigning Premier League champions are ready to appoint Rodgers after Guardiola leaves the club.
“Manchester City have been working on Brendan Rodgers for years. He’s been on their list for years. He (Rodgers) knows that they like him, they let him know that they like him on the basis that if they ever come to change Pep Guardiola, or when Pep leaves, they’d be interested in him.”

United could certainly use the Northern Irishman at the helm, especially due to his ability to promote the youth and integrate them with the experienced talent.
However, Rodgers recently committed his future to the King Power after being linked with Newcastle United. Regardless, it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer can prove his worth and come through for his former club before they decide to sack him.
