Man City star Bernardo Silva wary of threat Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo carries ahead of derby

Speaking in an interview (h/t The Express), Bernardo Silva revealed that Man City will make sure Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo does not score in the derby on Saturday.

The Portuguese winger has been rejuvenated this season and has nailed down a starting spot under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad. However, on the weekend, he will be up against a familiar face in Ronaldo.

The duo has linked up well when featuring for the Portugal national team, and Silva certainly knows the threat the United ace carries. The 36-year-old knocked in his 9th goal of the season in mid-week, as his brace ensured a point for the Red Devils against a stubborn Atalanta side.

The City midfielder has now revealed that his side will make sure the former Juventus man does not find the back of the net on the weekend.

Silva told reporters in an interview (h/t The Express):

“We are going to try and stop him (Cristiano Ronaldo) and make sure that he does not score on Saturday. But we are not playing against Cristiano, we are playing against Manchester United. We are going to be focused on our job.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co will need to ensure that the result against their city rivals does not resemble the freakshow that played out a couple of weeks ago against Liverpool.

Moreover, the pressure will certainly be on as the match is at Old Trafford, and fans will demand more from their players. However, Ronaldo has shown previously that he steps on the biggest of days and if the Red Devils do hope to avoid defeat against Guardiola’s men, the Portuguese international will need to be on his best game.
